About the market

Our Mission, Vision, & History

The Woodland Farmers Market is an authentic farmers market which emphasizes fresh in season produce (and other goods) and emphasize a hands-on approach to shopping. The market supports local businesses, especially those who providing locally produced goods to local customers, and who keep their proceeds in the local economy. Factor in the shoppers' chances to chat with the growers and possibly pick up a recipe from fellow food-lovers, and you have a formula for shopping success.

The future of the farmers markets looks bright; a recent study reports that major metro area farmers markets are now held being held twice weekly and some are now experimenting with 4-7 pm opening hours in order to fit in with people’s shopping habits are meeting success.

    Why Farmers’ Markets Are Important*
Farmers’ markets are one of the most exciting trends in America’s food system. Go downtown in almost any town or city in America during the summer, and you will see signs for the local farmers’ market. Read any farm publication examining new marketing opportunities for farmers, and farmers’ markets will be addressed. Talk with any public official interested in providing fresh nutritious food to inner city residents, and farmers’ markets will be mentioned.

Farmers’ markets are important because they give local farmers the chance to sell food they raise directly to customers; they allow consumers to buy fresh food from the farmers who raise it; they help create new farms and food businesses; they provide communities ways to create excitement and activity in downtowns and neighborhoods; and most importantly, they give us all the opportunity to think about what goes into producing our food supply. These reasons explain why farmers’ markets are one of the fastest growing forms of farm marketing in our nation.

You can help create our future by shopping at The Market and supporting our local vendors. You can also pitch in to make it all happen. The Market is run by a volunteer Board of Directors and a loyal, hard-working group of volunteers. You can help make that an even larger group of volunteers by adding your name to the list. Help us spread the word by telling your friends, by visiting this site often to see what’s new at The Market and what’s about to bloom. We’re working to make downtown Woodland better and more fun every day. Come join us. Help us create The Market of the future. Help us create the Woodland of the future.
